The Right Choice In Bedroom Furniture And Sundries.

Posted by: Antique Expert    in Antique Furniture

When choosing bedroom furniture there are a few things you might want to keep in mind. number one are you going with new or used furniture bedroom furniture because it makes a big difference in your strategy. If your furniture is used and may include any electrical wiring such as in the matching lamps that often are part of a large set then you will want to have it inspected.

By inspected 1st we mean the lamps or any piece that includes wiring. Old table lamps most of the time come with out dated or even original wiring that may pose a significant fire safety hazard. If upon inspection you find there are any even potential problems you should have the wiring 100% redone by a certified professional.

Why a Certified professional? Well, firstly so your house doesn’t burn down because you pulled a Rube Goldberg and fouled up the wiring. And second so that if it does become a challenge, one you have recourse and 2 your insurance should cover you. Of course you must seek the advice or council of your licensed insurance professional to get that question answered properly and I am in no way shape or form implying any advice.

If you decide to go the used bedroom set route then the next part of your quest is to decide whether or not you will be going with vintage period antiques or just plain normal used that could be only 1 year old but at a substantial discount over new. If you go with the vintage period antique furniture bedroom then consider this weighty option if you would please.

Look for a complete matching set because if you can find one or happen to stumble upon one that’s where the money is if you ever decide to resale the pieces. If you have ever seen anyone who has a huge matching set of silver service or seen any of the folks who collect matching service sets you likely know the value of a complete set. The same thing can be said and remain true for bedroom furniture. If you have a complete set with absolutely no missing pieces of period bedroom furniture you have something that will truly hold its resale value and command top dollar when you get ready to sell it later on if you decide that’s what you would like to do.

One handy little thought is when buying vintage bedroom furniture is to look underneath the bed and underneath the dressers to see if the cross rails are warped. The cross rails are the sometimes single or sometimes done in an X pattern wooden cross members that are there for support. If you find that they are badly warped it is often true that your piece will be susceptible to major warping or even cracking and splitting. Because as go the supports in furniture so goes the furniture itself.

One of the worst traps to be sure that we don’t end up falling into is the new theme for every room in the house trap. It’s very easy when you’re buying your Furniture Coffee Tables to say well, I know the rest of the house is all early American but this Leopard print Jungle them wouldn’t clash to much would it? I have seen houses where everything was high class south Florida pillars and columns then it looked like they shopped at a discount living room furniture store for their living room. Now mind you that the whole rest of the house looked like real money and then one room completely out of character.

Now, I’m not saying that eclectic won’t work. It’s just that if that’s what you decide to do, then do it throughout the entire house. Don’t have 1 continuous theme running everywhere you look and then only one room is out of order, that really looks funny. Or have all your entire living room have one very specific look and then your Furniture Bedroom Furniture are completely different. It will look as out of place as you riding a cow to a horse race.

One of the tricks you can do is when shopping for new furniture bring along a photo album of all the furniture and decor of your home the way it is now. Then while shopping simply look at the pictures and ask yourself, would this new piece your considering go well in any of the rooms of your current theme? If the answer is no then move on and don’t waste any more time even considering it. There are plenty more pieces for you to look at and always another vendor who would love to sell you all you can afford to buy.

If on the other hand you do find a piece that first is in your budget range. Oh yes, I forgot to mention you should never go shopping without a budget. You will soon find yourself over spending and likely not getting enough value for your money. Why? Because when you have a previously set budget then you tend to look harder for the better deals so that you can get more pieces within your budget limit. But when that one fantastic piece finally grabs you and it meets with your checklist approval of, within budget, fits in with your existing themes in the photos of your home and really tickles your fancy then by all means buy away. There is a great feeling that goes with the acquisition of a new major piece of furniture. First you love to buy it. Second you really enjoy it being delivered and placing in your perfect spot. And lastly it warms you when friends come over and comment how nice they think your new pieces looks and how well it coordinates with the feel and flow of your home.
