Medieval weapons are being collected by many people these days. Medieval weapons come in many forms and there are many types of medieval weapons to choose from, so how do you know which one to get for yourself? I wrote this article to tell you about the more commonly seen types of medieval weapons you may find. We’ll go over weapons such as: medieval axes, maces, pole weapons, flails, daggers, and even medieval swords.
Medieval axes have big mean appearing heads connected to short handles made from wood. Men could use these weapons to cut down trees and people. Many of these weapons were modified to have a short lance like tip on the end for jabbing movements.
Maces are rounded weapons that are meant for crushing rather than cutting. They have long wooden handles with large metal balls on the end. The end has spikes coming out of it to cut into enemies upon impact.
Long range mellee combat was fought using pole weapons. These weapons consisted of javelins, lances, halberts, and even tridents. These weapons can be difficult to display in a small room because of the large amount of space needed to display them. Conversely they are also the most satisfying weapon to display because of their large presence.
Extreme close combat fighting was fought with the use of medieval daggers. Soldiers carried these weapons to use in their free hand or when their main weapons failed them for one reason or another. They would also use them for skinning animals and general cutting. You’ll find that these daggers are very easy to display because of their small space requirements.
The most popular medieval weapon is most likely the medieval fighting sword. Fighters would use this weapon as a mid range fighting tool that could do battle with both close combat weapons and pole weapons. The use and display of this type of weapon is very popular. You can not go wrong buying a medieval sword to display.
Medieval flails are weapons consisting of a long wooden handle with a length of chain hooked to it. The chain ends with a large spiked ball for smashing and cutting purposes. This weapon was great for fighting because the person wielding the weapon could stay away from enemies with short weapons.
